​Ramagundam: The Ramagundam Police Commissionerate has created a sort of record on the eve of Republic Day, on Wednesday by organising a 3,200 meters (9 feet long) National Flag rally in coal town of Godavarikhani.

The flag stretched to Gandhi Chowk from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in the city with at least 25,000 people including 10,000 students and 5,000 volunteers holding aloft their heads.

Commissioner of Police Vikram Jeet Duggal, the man behind the idea, said: “The programme was aimed at developing patriotism among the people.”

He said that flag rally has also created a record by surpassing the previous record of 1.6 km rally held in Bengaluru, identified by Wonder Book of International Records.

He expressed hope that the fete would enter Limca Book of Records and also Guinness Book of World Records. The flag was stitched by 25 tailors in Sircilla and weighed around 700 kilograms. It took 20 days to stitch the flag.

The Commissioner heaped praise on the Commissionerate Police especially special branch sub-inspector Jagadeesh who made the programme possible.

District Collector Alagu Varshini, DIG Warangal Range C Ravi Varma, Mancherial Collector RV Karnan, DCPs K Vijender Reddy and John Wesley were among others present.
