​Bhadrachalam: Tension prevailed when the police unearthed a landmine consisting 5 kg of explosives planted by Maoists near Taliperu Project left canal in Cherla Mandal on Wednesday.

Local police found the landmine at the left canal during regular vehicle check. The landmine was neutralised with the help of Kothagudem landmine detecting squad and dog squad.

Stones, wires, iron pieces were used in the landmine. The devise was kept in a three-feet deep pit on the road. It is thought that the Maoists targeted police.

Venkatapuram circle inspector Ramana, Cherla sub-inspector Satyanarayana, CRPF assistant commandant Satish Kumar, civil and special police officials were present when the landmine was detected.
