Janpahad (Suryapet): Thousands of devotees took part in the sandal procession of Janpahad Dargah on Friday, an important event in the three-day Urs celebrations.

Following the tradition, district Minister G Jagadish Reddy along with Collector Surendra Mohan handed over the sandal to Mujawars for the ceremonial procession after conducting prayers in Chandan Khana (Sandal house) at Janpahad village of Palakeedu mandal in the district. MLCs Pula Ravinder and Palla Rajeshwar Reddy accompanied the Minister on the occasion.

Speaking to media, Jagadish Reddy informed that proposals were prepared to set up permanent facility at Dargah with a cost of Rs 23 lakh for the convenience of devotees. He further informed that the government has released Rs 11 lakh for the arrangements for Urs.

The Minister ordered the officials to pay special attention to the arrangements to avoid any inconvenience to the devotees during Urs days. People thronged the Dargah to touch the sandal as they believe that by touching it they would be bestowed with good luck.

Meanwhile, district police made elaborate security arrangements for the three-day festivities.

Large number of police personnel including one Deputy Superintendent of Police, eight Circle Inspectors and 18 Sub Inspectors were deployed at the Dargah to avoid any untoward incidents during the celebrations.

District SP Parimala , Kodad DSP Ramana Reddy, RDO Mohan Rao and local leaders of various parties also took part in the programme.
