Everybody talks about detachment. If you get detached from life, that means death. If you talk detachment, you are talking about avoiding life.

Because of all this talk, there are a lot of half-alive people on the planet. That is a crime against life.
Why do you want to exist here and avoid life? You have come here to live and to experience life. Your life should happen in the most exuberant way possible.

People talk about detachment because somewhere, there is fear about involvement with life. You must understand, the fear is not about involvement, but about entanglement.
People talk about detachment because they do not know the distinction between involvement and entanglement.
Life can be known only by involvement. If you are not involved, it does not mean anything even if you are in heaven.
Let’s say you are sitting with your family right now. If you are not involved, do all these people mean anything to you?
If you are involved, suddenly all these people mean so much to you. Whether it is your family, society or life around you, only if you show involvement, in that moment you know life.
If you knew how to be absolutely involved with life and not be entangled, people would not have started this whole philosophy of detachment.
Entanglement has come not because there is something wrong with life but because you are handling life improperly.
If you have to be involved and not entangled, your involvement should not be partial either. Right now your involvement is only with certain people and certain aspects of life and because of this, you naturally get identified.
It is due to lack of involvement that you are getting entangled. If your involvement is unbridled, you are involved with everything that your five senses are making you aware of at this moment – the very air that you breathe, the atmosphere around you and the life around you – then there is no question of entanglement.
It is the ignorance with which you are handling the life process which entangles you. You get identified with things that you are not, starting from your physical body, your thoughts, your opinions, your emotions and a million other things.
Once you get identified, your whole life gets distorted. You don’t have a proper perspective of what or who you are and now you are entangled.
If entanglement should not happen, you must maintain an awareness as to what you are and what you are not – what is you and what is yours.
If this distinction is constantly kept, there is no question of entanglement. You can enjoy what is yours but you don’t have to become that.
