Suryapet: District administration is making all necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of famous biannual Peddagattu Jatara, slated to take place from February 12 to 16. As a part of tradition, 15 days before the Jatara i.e., on January 29 late night, Distipuja to Deverapette was performed at the temple which was brought from Devaragudi of Kesaram village.

After performing all the rituals, the Devarapette was returned to Devaragudi on Monday evening where pujas would be performed for next 15 days. The Deverapette will be shifted from Devaragudi to Durajpally hillock at 11 pm on the first day of Jatara. The Devarapette would be brought to the temple in a procession.

The Devarapette contains the idols of Lingamanthula Swamy, Goddess Chowdamma, Potharaju, Ganga, Yelamanchamma, Akumanchamma, Pothulingalu and many others, who are worshipped in rural parts of the State.

The family of Thandu Ramaswamy, Thandu Pullaiah and Lingaiah, who are considered as priests in Yadav community from Chikatigudem of Mahabubabad district, takes care of the box.

Speaking to The Hans India, Lingamanthula Jatara Temple Utsava Commitee chairman Srinivas and Yadav youth leader Nagaraju informed that the families of Menthaboina and Munna, both belong to Yadava community, and Golla Ganna Reddy , whose families were believed to have spotted the deities on Durajpalli hillock centuries ago , get the opportunity to keep the box at their house in rotation.

Recently on request of Yadav community and respective families, Minister G Jagadish Reddy took the initiation and constructed Devara temple with an estimated cost of Rs 5 lakh to keep the Devarapette before and after Distipuja at main temple.

They also informed that a family in Cheekatigudem village of Torrur mandal in present Mahabubabad district traditionally sends the box to Lingamanthula Swamy and Chowdamma temple located at Durajpalli of Chivemla mandal in Suryapet district 15 days ahead of the commencement of the Jatara.

This tradition is being followed for centuries. The box kept at Devaragudi on the third day of the five-day celebration will be taken away by the owners after performing special pujas.
