The revival of Pandurangapuram-Sarapaka railway line will facilitate more tourist arrivals to the Bhadradri temple

Bhadrachalam: Hopes of people here have been kindled over the recent statements of the central leaders, including Union Labour Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, on the Ram temple here over the revival of the 11-km-long Pandurangapuram-Sarapaka railway line, as it would facilitate tourist arrivals to the temple town from all over the country.

Currently, tourists from home and abroad have been facing problems in reaching here for want of train services to the temple town. People can travel up to Bhadrachalam road, near Kothagudem, station by train. From there, they have to travel by road to reach the temple town.

Subsequently, the railway line has been extended till Manuguru to enable transport of coal. If the railway line is branched from Pandurangapuram, en route Kothagudem Road-Manuguru railway line, and extended it to Sarapaka, it would be of a great service to tourists thronging the temple town.

During Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy regime as Chief Minister, survey has been conducted on this project due to pressure on the Centre. However, the Centre insisted that the cost of the project should be borne by the Centre and the State in the ratio of 50:50.

The subsequent chief ministers did not cherish the idea and hence the project has been shelved. Moreover, the proposed Pandurangapuram-Sarapaka railway line passes through forest area and hence requires forest department’s permission to undertake a survey.

The proposed project seems to remain on paper as there is no leader worth the name to push the matter with the Centre. Therefore, the people of the region have pinned hopes on the railway budget for allocations to Pandurangapuram-Sarapaka railway line.

Speaking to The Hans India, local BJP leader A Subba Rao appealed to the government to sanction the Pandurangapuram-Sarapaka railway line in the railway budget. The railway line would facilitate the highest tourist arrivals to the Bhadradri temple here.

A staunch devotee of Lord Srirama, Lakshminarsamma, a local woman, felt that BJP government should clear the long-pending railway line project to improve travel facilities to neighbouring Chhattisgarh and Odisha.
