Kazipet: Every individual should contribute towards the development of villages as ‘Model Villages’, the speakers at a convention on rural development here on Thursday said.

Nearly 3,000 members of Adarsha Grama Committees from 125 villages have taken part in the convention held on the theme ‘Role of village committees in development of Model Villages’ at Bala Vikasa Peoples Development Centre in Kazipet.

Marking the convention, a massive rally with the grama committee members was taken out in the streets of Kazipet on the day. Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu, founder of Bala Vikasa-Sopar Bala Theresa Gingras and others have addressed the gathering.

Bala Theresa said it took three years to develop ‘Model Village’ concept with the help of village leaders and committee members. The basic idea was to turn every member in a village change maker and to address issues related to the village development and the problems faced by women.

The Commissioner Sudheer Babu stressed on the need of sustainable development in the villages and wanted every village to become a model village like Gangadevipalli. In that process, women should be allowed to play important role and as they could make good decisions.

He lauded the efforts being made by Bala Vikasa towards rural and women development in the district.

Bala Vikasa Executive Director S Shoury Reddy addressing the gathering said that a village becomes ideal village only when people come forward with a heart to accept the change and make disciplined efforts.

An individual should first change himself and his surroundings and then join hands to make a change in the village. Such a change could further lead to development of model villages, he explained.

Sarpanches Shankar and Nagi Reddy have shared their experiences and explained dedication of the grama committees in bringing out development with collective efforts. They attributed their success in doing to so active support extended by Bala Vikasa.

“Raghavapur we achieved 100 per cent literacy and constructed toilets and soak pits and stopped plastic use,” Nagi Reddy informed. Bala Vikasa president Basani Marredy, Jana Vikasa president Lourdhu Marredy S and others present.
