Harish Rao appeals to Centre to bestow Padma Shri on Bala Vikasa founder

Kazipet: The Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, has been engaged in devising plans to strengthen caste-based occupations in the State, informed Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao. Several important measures are going to be incorporated in the ensuing budget.

The government has aimed to supply safe drinking water to every household by next year through the flagship programme, Mission Bhagiratha.

Steps are being taken to increase budgetary allocations to Devadula irrigation project, to reduce submergence and to ensure the water supply for 360 days through the project. It was planned to start 500 SC/ST/BC residential schools from next year, the Minister said.

Harish Rao attended a convention of community water treatment plant committees organised by Kazipet-based NGO Bala Vikasa Social Service Society at Fatima Nagar here on Friday.

Addressing the gathering, he lauded the services being rendered by Bala Vikasa and appealed the Centre to honour the society founder Bala Theresa Gingras with Padma Sri Award in recognition of her service activities.

With the help of Bala Vikasa, they were able to present dual desk benches to 500 government schools under Siddipet assembly constituency. The government created digital classrooms in nearly 50 schools and would like to extend facility to more schools with the help of Bala Vikasa.

The society has been filling the gap, which government was unable to address in supporting school children. He promised to allocate land and material for constructing Bala Vikasa office at Siddipet.

MLA D Vinay Bhasker addressing the gathering said Bala Vikasa succeeded in organising people into groups and equipping them with skills needed for managing the water plants and in instaling them in villages.

Bala Theresa shared her views about the management and responsibilities with the water plant management committee’s members and asked them make a good use of it for the betterment of the villages.

The society executive director S Shouri Reddy said in order to provide safe drinking water to the poor, they have adopted a five-stage filtration process ensuring removal of excessive fluoride content and harmful particles.

He said an incubation centre was started by Bala Vikasa in Hyderabad to support the social entrepreneurs with innovative ideas. Sujal Any Time Water (ATW) kiosks set up in Warangal and Hyderabad would be extended to the other states of Karnataka and Maharashtra.

He presented a memorandum Harish Rao seeking free power supply to community water plants and Sujal Any Time Water (ATW) kiosks set up in Warangal and Hyderabad. Responding to which the minister the issue would be taken to the notice of the CM.
