Shakti is taking the dance industry by storm. After mentoring aspiring dancers on ‘Dance Plus’ for the second time to throwing the doors open to her dance studio ‘NrityaShakti’ for aspiring dancers, Shakti has recently launched her fashion line online on her Nrityashakti Store.
Shakti is contributing majorly to the dance and fitness industry. She is going to make her debut on the silver screen pretty soon with Remo Dsouza's upcoming ballet movie.
From being a contestant to being a judge, how has been the journey so far?
It has been the best experience ever in life. Never ever in my life I thought I would be where I am today. I was and am very clear that I want to dance and take it to another level in India.
What parameters do you keep in mind while judging a dance show?
I love watching purity. You can be excellent in technique but if your emotions are not real it shows clearly. For me transitions matter a lot, everyone can get into a position but how you get out of it and go to the next move shows how good you are as a dancer.
You recently slammed body-shamers with a powerful post on social media? In your opinion why do you think people indulge in this?
I don't dislike them. I understand where this thought comes from. It's been centuries that women are perceived in a certain way. If people do not try to make a change it will always be the same. Women are human beings and not commodities.
It really upsets me when people say "Be a Man" and their abuses are centred around women's private parts. It's disgusting and I feel that why you need to say words like that to degrade someone or to express something.
Popular abuses all over the world are around women like “Don't be a p***y”, “You walk like a girl” and the list is endless. It's time people accept girls as humans and understand it is not easy to live in this world, where people are constantly telling you to be something you are not.
Tell us about your future projects.
I am so excited about 2017. Full of madness ‘Dance Plus 3’, Ballroom dance movie with Remo sir, Nritya Shakti tour 2017, New collection of Nritya Shakti Store and a launch of a show I am planning at Nritya Shakti Studio. So this year couldn't be better.
