Hanamkonda: TJAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram has demanded the TSPSC and the State government relaxation of the norms fixed for appointing teacher posts in the State-run residential schools.

He said eligibility criteria set for appointing the posts was not proper and it would make a majority of job aspirants to lose the chance to apply for the posts. The average pass percentage in Telangana was below 50 and it was around 40 per cent in B Sc stream.

Very few students get 60 percent marks in degree and post-graduate courses. Telangana State Public Service Commission’s notification set the minimum percentage of marks at 60 per cent to apply and it could eliminate nearly four to five lakh candidates from the job race, he noted.

Speaking to press persons in Hanamkonda on Wednesday, Kodandaram said when the job notification was issued the job aspirants have felt happy but they left dejected on learning the eligibility criteria.

Prof Kodandaram also found fault with the rule of three years of teaching experience for post graduate teacher posts which he said unwanted and should be withdrawn. After completing their education many students either engage in preparing for TET or attending coaching classes for other competitive tests.

It was unfair to ask the candidates possess not less than 50 per cent of marks in Teaching Methodology in B Ed to apply for training graduate teacher posts. In view of the eligibility conditions not even one lakh candidates in the State could be able apply for the posts, he explained.

Referring to the TJAC’s proposed protest rally in the State capital on February 22, he said they would hold the protest at any cost. The protest was aimed to expose the government’s failure in creating jobs for the youth in the State.

As per the government records, there are 1.07 lakh vacancies and but going by the information available with the government it had till now filled up only 15,000 posts, he said and appealed the youth to take part in the rally in large numbers and also meeting at Indira Park on the day and make it a grand success.

Later on the day, Kodandaram addressed a gathering at a seminar on ‘Indian Federalism and smaller states: Challenges and prospects’. He said even after formation of Telangana state the aspirations of people in the State were not fulfilled.
