​Suryapet: District Collector Surendra Mohan informed that the aim of conducting Green Day on every Friday was to save the saplings planted under Haritha Haram programme.

On Friday, he launched the programme by watering a sapling planted along National Highway 65, near Pillalamarri of Suryapet.

Speaking on the occasion, he said Green Day was conceptualised for caring and watering plants. As part of the programme every Friday from 9 am to 10.30 am, officials, local public representatives and people collectively work together and remove weeds and water the saplings planted under Haritha Haram programme. In case, if any sapling dies or disappears, a new sapling would be planted in its place, he added.

Besides Green Day, watering and caring of saplings in summer would be carried out under NREGS scheme, he informed.

The Collector also urged people of the district to take care of saplings planted on the premises of their homes.

He stated that as many as 30,000 saplings were planted along NH-65 in the district and with the active involvement of the people from walks of life, the district would become a green spot in near future.

He oversaw the Green Day programme organised by municipal councillors, staff and women at municipal park near SV Degree College in the town.

Later, the Collector visited Bhagath Singh Nagar in Ward 8 of the town, and along with students and women he planted saplings in the colony.

On this occasion, he interacted with students and distributed prizes to some of them who explained the aim of Green Day and importance of plantation.

Municipal Commissioner Surender, FRO Venkateshwar Rao, Ward 8 Councillor Nimmala Venkanna, MDO Nagireddy and others participated.
