Children will get rid of worms that grow in the intestines by taking Albendazole tablets, suggested District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Dr Rajesham.

Karimnagar: Children will get rid of worms that grow in the intestines by taking Albendazole tablets, suggested District Medical and Health Officer (DM&HO) Dr Rajesham.

The students of Government High School at Mankkammathota were distributed the tablets on the occasion of National Deworming Day on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rajesham said that due to unhygienic surroundings, open defecation and unhealthy practices, intestinal worms will enter the bodies of the children.

“Even though the children are fed with nutritious and balanced diet, the worms in the intestine will eat it and will cause health problems in them such as anaemia, loss of appetite, severe stomach pain, diarrhoea and vomiting. Due to this, the children will lose concentration and lag behind in their studies,” he observed.

For the benefit of the children to have a healthy life, the government is organising deworming day twice in a year on February 10 and on August 10 and distributing tablets freely to children below 19 years age, he said.

Rajesham urged the parents and the managements of schools and colleges along with anganwadi workers to take measures for administering the tablets to children without fail.

Dr Pavan Kumar, Mandal Education Officer Chokka Reddy, representative of voluntary organisation Sahithi and the school management and staff were present along with others.
