Sultanabad: The SRSP canal bridge at Neerukulli road (D-86 SRSP) of Sultanabad mandal of Peddapalli district is on the verge of collapse, with none even bothering to attend to its care. Small culverts have been built on top of the structure. It reached collapsible stage three years back.

No repairs to the bridge have been taken up even as school buses and various other vehicles move on the culverts.

Although residents of Sultanabad have brought the issue to officials notice, the SPSP officials have been dodging the repair work. During the last one month, the canal, with water getting leaked, developed huge and deep cracks.

Yet the officials concerned or the administration has been unmoved to take any remedial action. There is a danger of either a school bus or a lorry falling in the cracks.

With the bridge becoming totally unsafe, local residents feel that the government might open its eyes only after a mishap occurs.

When this correspondent contacted the officials they said the repair work would be taken up either in April or May.

On their part, the residents want the government to intervene and order immediate repair to the structure so that accidents could be averted.
