Khammam: State secretary of Telangana Vidhyavanthula Vedika (TVV) Viplav Kumar demanded that the government release the leaders of Telangana Democratic Federation (TDF), who had been arrested illegally in January this year, here in Khammam on Monday.

Releasing a poster ahead of dharna, to be staged on February 16, on Monday, Kumar alleged that the TDF activists Chikkudu Prabhakar, Balla Ravindranath, Duddu Prabhakar, Ramanala Lakshmaiah, Bandi Durga Prasad, Rajendra Prasad and Nazeer were arrested illegally by the Khammam police when they were going to Chhattisgarh to study the problems of tribals living in interior areas, and the harassment they were meted out to.

“The Khammam police handed over them to the Chhattisgarh police. By registering false cases against the TDF leaders, the Chhattisgarh police sent the leaders to Sukma Jail and did not release them till date,” he alleged.

Even after many appeals by peoples’ organisations and intellectuals, the government is not responding and behaving negligently, he added.

“To teach the government a fitting lesson, members of all peoples’ organisations will stage a dharna on February 16 demanding TDF leaders’ release,” he warned.

He urged all sections of people and intellectuals to participate in the dharna in large numbers and make it a success.

KNPS district president Modem Venkanna, AIKS district secretary Koleti Nageshwar Rao, TPF leader Pulla Rao, CRPP convenor Venkat, IMS leader Yakubi, Rythu Sangam leader Chava Ramesh, LHPS leader Bhadru Naik, IAKS leaders Chirra Ravi and Ramesh, PDSU leaders Samba, Murali, Krishna and M Rakesh and TVV leaders Swathi and Naga Raju, IFTU leader Kaladhar and the POW leader Lalitha were present along with others.
