Khammam: Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said the government was striving hard for the welfare of farmers by fixing Minimum Support Price for their produce.

The Minister along with the DCCB Chairman Muvva Vijay Babu inaugurated the pulses purchasing centre here at Nelakondapalli in Khammam on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, Tummala said for the convenience of farmers, pulses purchasing centre had been opened here in Nelakondapalli apart from taking necessary steps by fixing MSP of Rs 5,050 per one quintal. “Government is determined for the uplift of farming community in the State,” the Minister said.

He also said government was implementing various welfare schemes for weaker sections in the State. With Godavari and Krishna river water, the constituency is going to become fertile which would help farmers in the coming days.

“The government has sanctioned Rs 48 crore for completion of modernisation works of Palair Old Canal. The works will be inaugurated by Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao along with Animal Husbandry Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on February 16,” he informed.

Agriculture Market Committee Chairman R J C Krishna, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadepalli Kavitha, Markfed Divisional Manager Mahesh, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Marapaka Nagesh, Deputy Director of Khammam Agriculture Market Prasad Rao and Secretary of the Nelakondapalli Agriculture Market Committee Srinivas were present along with others.
