​Hanamkonda: A large number of activists of CITU and TMRPS and municipal workers have staged a rasta-roko at Hanamkonda chowrastha on Monday, demanding Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia to a municipal worker, who died on Monday.

The deceased D Chinavenkataiah (52), a contract worker, died on-duty at Rampur in the city during morning hours on the day following an illness. Following which, the protest was staged. The protestors demanded Rs 20,000 towards funeral costs, besides ex-gratia.

CITU leaders R Ramesh, T Uppalaiah and V Sarangapani, TMPPS leaders Pulla Devender, S Surender and D Damodar have expressed serious concern over the officials’ negligent attitude towards the corporation workers.

It was sad that the GWMC Mayor N Narender and Commissioner Shruti Ojha have failed to console the family members of the deceased worker. Immediate measures should be taken up to take care of health of the municipal workers, the leaders demanded.
