​Suryapet: Chairman of Central Silk Board KM Hanumanthappa stated that weather of Telangana was best suited for Sericulture.

On Thursday, he attended as a chief guest to Sericulture Farmers Workshop -2017, conducted at J Gardens in Suryapet. Addressing the framers, he said he was touring all over the country to create awareness among farmers about sericulture and its benefits.

A subsidy of Rs 2.60 lakh is being given to farmers for the construction of silkworm rearing sheds and an amount of Rs 5,000 under NREGS to those who cultivate Mulberry in an acre land, he informed.

Stating that the cost of a kg of silk cocoons was increased to Rs 400 from Rs 300, he said the Telangana government was paying Rs 75 per kg as incentive to farmers to promote sericulture in the State. He also informed that Telangana was the first State that paid highest incentive to the sericulture farmers.

He advised farmers to focus on Sericulture to get rid of their debts due to cultivation of regular crops. Director of Central Silk Board Shiva Prasad, Suryapet Municipal chair person Pravallika, MPP Janiah, officials, scientists, sericulture farmers from Warangal, Janagaon, Sangareddy, Medak, Khammam, Nalgonda, Yadadri and Suryapet districts participated.
