Karimnagar: All sections of people irrespective of their caste and religion must participate in building a safe and smart city, Member of Parliament Boinapalli Vinod Kumar appealed the public after inaugurating the ‘Cyclothon’, a 4K cycle rally organised by Police department in Karimnagar on Monday.

The rally was organised from Ambedkar stadium to Government SRR Degree and PG College via bus stand, Telangana chowk, R&B and Court chowrastha in the city. About 2,000 students from various educational institutions participated in the rally along with peoples’ representatives and leaders of various political parties.

Speaking on the occasion, MP Vinod Kumar promoted usage of cycles which will prevent environmental pollution along with saving non-renewable resources such as petrol and diesel and good to keep the body healthy and fit.

Everybody must get used to cycling along with playing a key role in prevention of environmental pollution. District Collector Sarfaraz Ahmed said that all the district officials along with government employees of different departments were directed to come to the office on bicycle once in a week, to be a part of initiative programme of ‘Safe and Smart City’.

Commissioner of Police V B Kamalasan Reddy said the police department is striving hard to give assurance to the people on security under Commissionerate limits and installed nearly 500 CCTV cameras at various places covering every nook and corner of the city for giving them protection along with participating in developmental activities introduced by the government.

MLA Gangula Kamalakar, MLC Naradasu Lakshman Rao, City Mayor Ravinder Singh, Municipal Commissioner Shashank, Assistant Commissioner of Police J Rama Rao, V Thirupathi, Ashok Kumar and the representatives Olympic Association Janardhan Reddy and Ramesh Reddy were present along with Ghanshyam Ojha and others.
