Bhadrachalam: With temple’s annual income and expenditures being equal, the Sri Sitaramachandra Swamy temple is crying for funds to conduct the annual Brahmotsavams to be held during Srirama Navami.

The temple spends up to Rs 2 crore to conduct Brahmotsavams and festivities associated with the Vaikunta Ekadasi from its kitty with no financial assistance from the State government.

With Brahmotsavams slated to be held from March 29 to April 11 this year, the Chief Engineer of the temple’s Engineering department’s has already given a green signal to start various works for Brahmotsavams.

Against spending of Rs 58.60 lakh on Brahmotsavams last year, this year the temple is gearing up to spend Rs 73.60 lakh.

The temple administration has estimated to spend Rs 20 lakh for upkeep of sanitation, Rs 30 lakh for purchase of pearls, Rs 15 lakh for publicity, Rs 20 lakh for floral decoration and other incidental expenses, Rs 9.87 lakh for erection of pandals, Rs 7 lakh for wall painting and barricades, Rs 6.45 lakh for 75 LED screens, Rs 6.40 lakh for establishing queue lines and pandals at Parnasala, Rs 6 lakh for setting up counters for selling Akshathalu and prasadam, Rs 5.90 lakh to provide ad hoc accommodation measuring 94,800 sqft, Rs 4.20 lakh for development works at the main temple, Rs 4 lakh to install 30-tonne air-conditioners in Kalyana Mandapam, Rs 3.40 lakh for laying green carpets, Rs 2 lakh for cloth decorations and Rs 1.10 lakh to installation of CCTV cameras around Kalyana Mandapam.

With the State government announcing Srirama Navami as a State festival, the temple administration, which is saddled with financial burden to conduct the event, has urged the government to pitch in to share the bills.

Earlier, the temple governing body adopted a resolution urging the Endowments Commissioner to allocate Rs 2 crore for conducting Brahmotsavams. The resolution was taken to the notice of the Endowments’ Commission but no action was taken. Meanwhile, BJP leader B Sankar Reddy appealed to the State government to foot the bill for celebrating Brahmotsavams this year.

Brahmotsavams schedule announced
Meanwhile, the temple administration has announced the Brahmotsavams schedule. According to it, Panchangasravanam and Tiruveedhi Seva will be conducted on March 29 (Ugadi), followed by Navahnika Brahmotsavam on April 1, Edurukolu festival on April 4, Sitarama Thiru Kalyanam on April 5 and coronation of Lord Rama (Mahapattabhishekam) on April 6.
