Bhongir: Irrigation and Marketing Minister T Harish Rao informed that giving top priority to agriculture, the State government has purchased 12 lakh quintals of paddy from farmers through 95 Procuring Centres by paying Rs 600 crore to them.

On Monday, along with Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, Harish Rao toured the Bhongir town. As part of a programme, the duo Ministers laid foundation stone for expansion of existing Rythu Bazar in the town with an estimated cost of Rs 81 lakh and also laid foundation stone for the construction of Peddacheruvu Mini tankbund, with an estimated cost of Rs 6.20 crore. Later, the Ministers participated as guests in swearing in ceremony of Agriculture Market Committee (AMC) members of Bhongir.

Addressing the gathering, the Irrigation Minister informed that after formation of Telangana, seeds, pesticides and issues of farmers were addressed successfully apart from the State government providing nine-hour uninterrupted power supply to farms.

“For the welfare of farmers, the State government with an estimated cost of Rs 1,024 crore has been constructing 17 warehouses in the State and three of them are coming up in Bhongir,” he informed, adding that 21 tmcft of water would be supplied to Yadadri district through Gandamalla and Basvapur reservoirs.

This year cotton, maize and red gram got more MSP than last year, he underlined. “Expansion of Bundigani, Darmareddypalli and Pillaipalli canals, with an estimated cost of Rs 268 crore, will turn the drought-hit lands of Yadadri and part of Nalgonda districts into fertile,” he said.

On Mission Kakatiya, Harish added that Rs 65 crore were already spent for the revival of selected water bodies in two phases of the scheme in the district and about Rs 25-crore proposal was received in third phase from the district administration.

Stating that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao was taking care of all sections of the society, the Irrigation Minister added that loyal party workers would be honored with suitable nominated posts. Launching tirade against opposition, particularly Congress, Harish asked the party cadres to counter the misinformation campaign launched by the opposition parties.

Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy, Bhongir MP Bhoora Narsaiah Goud and local MLA P Shekar Reddy listed out the State government programmes designed for the welfare of people.

Bhongir AMC Chairman Pantulu Naik thanked all the leaders who helped him in pocketing the post to serve the farmers. MLC Karne Prabhakar, TSFDC Chairman Banda Narender Reddy, TS Warehousing Corporation Chairman Mandula Sameul, Tungaturhi MLA Gadhari Kishore and Bhongir Municipal Chairperson Lavanya, other local leaders and officials participated.
