Hanamkonda: Large numbers of persons with hearing impairment have staged a dharna in front of Warangal Urban District Collectorate here on Monday, seeking filling up of the existing vacancies under physically challenged category.

They submitted a memorandum to District Collector Amrapali Kata under the banner of Warangal District Association of the Deaf. The association president O Sasidhar, office bearers Sd Jameel Ahmed, M Suman, Md Bilal Ali, N Naresh and others took part in the protest.

They urged the official to verify the department-wise vacancies in the district and fill up such vacancies with physically challenged persons. Though there were guidelines issued by the State government, no vacancies were filled up for the past three years, they alleged.

In addition to that there was no clarity on the vacancies meant for physically challenged persons. The officials should initiate immediate measures to verify the vacancies such as multi-purpose health assistance and notify vacancies under deaf and dumb category.

Further, the association leaders said there was a provision to fill up the posts that remained vacant in visually impaired category with persons with hearing impairment. Hence notification to fill up such posts should immediately be released, they demanded.

The city Congress working president Rajanala Srihari extending solidarity to the association members has taken part in the dharna. He appealed the district administration to look into the demands put forth by the hearing-impaired and initiate measures to address them.
