Warangal: A House Committee of the State Assembly has visited Rampur village of Dharmasagar mandal in the district on Monday and inspected the land allocated to Tirumala Hatcheries by the APIICC in 2005.

There have been allegations of illegal encroachment of a sizeable assigned land under the survey number 337 of Rampur by the Tirumala hatcheries, owned by relatives of former TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah. The committee has visited the village in the wake of such allegations.

The committee chairman Sudheer Reddy and members Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Jafar Hussain, Ramulu Naik, NVSS Prabhakar, Prabhakar Reddy and others were accompanied by the TSIIC officials, District Collector Amrapali Kata and Joint Collector S Dayanand. Later, the officials held a meeting with the revenue and TSIIC officials at Hotel Haritha Kakatiya.

Speaking on the occasion, Sudheer Reddy said the committee was constituted to probe into encroachment of assigned lands, lands allotted to SCs/STs, Wakf lands, temples and Bhoodan land. There has been delay in receiving information from districts on such lands in view of reorganisation of districts.

As the legislators have raised objections on the land owned by the hatcheries, they have met twice and visited the village to obtain first hand information related to the land. The committee would again meet in March first week in Hyderabad before submitting a report to the Assembly Speaker, he informed. Since a case was pending in the court, the advocate general would also be asked to attend the meeting.

A few members of the committee felt that there was no dispute over the lands allocated by the TSIIC, but there were some objections on the utilisation of the land. Some other members stated that compensation to assigned land owners was not paid and constructions on the land should not be allowed in view of the court case.

District Collector Amrapali explained the committee members that the assigned lands were handed over to APIIC in 1980 and presented order of events that took place later.
