Plentiful resources, yet no cement industries in Adilabad

Adilabad: Although there are abundant cement reserves in Adilabad district, the State government has failed to set up related industries. Besides, it has been years since the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit has been shut down affecting many workers, despite the fact that there were many limestone reserves in Jainad, Bela, Thamsi, Talamadugu, Adilabad, Narnoor, Gudihathnur mandals, besides those of the CCI.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday, BJP leader Suresh Joshi said that raw materials like coal, magnesium, gypsum that are required are also lands and water for establishing cement industries are also available. Lands that are available locally come at a cheap rate, he pointed out. Yet nothing is being done to set up industries, say worried residents, he lamented.
HIGHLIGHTS:
- It has been years since the Cement Corporation of India (CCI) unit has been shut affecting many workers
- There are many limestone reserves in Jainad, Bela, Thamsi, Talamadugu, Adilabad, Narnoor, Gudihathnur mandals, besides those of CCI which has been closed
- Land for cement factory by Jindal company was allotted in the Yapalguda area ten years back but it is yet to take shape
- District CPI secretary Dattu accuses a minister from the district of not bothering about establishment of cement industries, despite abundant opportunities.
There are 1,300 acres in the possession of the State Industries Infrastructure Corporation required for setting up industries. Adequate water of the Penganga is also available in the various projects. There are allegations that the officials concerned are indifferent to putting up of industries despite the availability of the required raw material.
Besides, there are adequate transport facilities like the railways, road connectivity along the National Highway 44 to move the finished products to areas between the North and South India. Despite, these facilities, the State government’s negligence is to be blamed for no industry coming up, people here complained, while speaking to The Hans India, hitting out at those at the helm of affairs .
Points out AITUC leader Vilas to The Hans India said that limestone reserves even excavated for 100 years would be sufficient to establish cement industries. He said these reserves in Jainadh mandal alone were enough to set up three industries. Yet none has been put up, thus rendering the reserves waste. Land for the cement factory by the Jindal Company has been allotted in the Yapalguda area ten years back. It is yet to be come up.
Adilabad is one of the most backward districts in the State. Even its employment avenues are limited. In such a scenario, there is enough scope for setting up cement industries in both the public and private sectors in the district by the government, exploiting the abundant resources.
Local residents have appealed to the TRS dispensation to pave the way for setting up of such industries so as to provide employment to jobless persons. In one industry, there can be direct/indirect employment for 5,000 persons, besides showing the path to development of the district. Jobless people want the government to take steps for putting up such industries.
District CPI secretary Dattu accuses a Minister from the district of not bothering about the establishment of cement industries, despite the abundant opportunities. He charges the government with limiting the Nagpur-Hyderabad industrial corridor to only a proposal, after making an announcement.
