A national-level technical symposium “Convergence 2k17” is inaugurated at VNR Vignana Jyothi Institute of Engineering & Technology, Pragathi Nagar, Hyderabad. Vanitha Datla, Chairperson-CII Telangana and Vice-Chairperson of Elico Ltd., and K Vinay Kumar, CEO-Datawise Hyderabad, attended the inaugural event as the Guests of Honor.

Vanitha Datla motivated the audience with her speech, saying that networking is important for everyone and that we cannot huddle among groups of acquaintances if we must grow as individuals. She mentioned that the USA has one-third the population of India but nearly nine times the GDP.

She informed that among universities that created billionaires around the world, it is sadly only a few IITs that are listed from India.

She encouraged students to think beyond courses, classwork, and even projects and that students must be entrepreneurial in order to embark to new heights in career and to take the nation to a higher level.

Vanitha pointed that we do not generally think of our contribution to the GDP but urged the attendees to introspect about the same.

She pointed that most start-ups are not being strong contributors to the local economies and that governmental initiatives such as Make in India and Digital India are also seeing more contributions from MNCs than Indian organisations.

Vinay Kumar, in his address, reminded the audience that today marks the National Science Day, which is celebrated on the occasion of CV Raman having been, conferred the Nobel Prize in Physics.

Further, he questioned that audience to think why we as a country could not produce another Raman even after 87 years! He urged the attendees to think of the contribution of engineers towards nation-building.

In a society where students are typically torn between fulfilling their parents’ desires and society’s expectations and pursuing their own dreams in the field of their interest, Vinay Kumar said that it is important for students to keep discovering themselves and involve in research.

The faculty coordinator of convergence 2k17, BV Kiranmayee, informed that more than 350 papers will be presented during the symposium which will also witness over 70 events and workshops and that Convergence 2k17 also marks the maiden RoboWars at the Institute.

The event was attended by the Deans, Heads of Departments, and other faculty members and students from within and outside the Institute.
