Nizamabad: Financial activities in the district were badly hit as bankers went on a strike on Tuesday under the aegis of the United Forum of Bank Unions. They were protesting against the anti-people’s banking reforms.

They were also demanding payment of compensation for the extra work that they put during last November due to demonetisation of high valued currency notes.

Speaking to the media, Bankers Union leader Ramulu said that the Centre was treating the bank employees as bonded labourers without paying them minimum wages. He demanded the implementation of the 11th Pay Revision recommendations to mitigate the suffering of the bank staff.

Ramulu also wanted the vacant posts in the banks to be filled up immediately as the present staff were overburdened with the work. He wanted the Union Government to raise the gratuity amount to Rs 20 lakh.

A large number of bankers sat on a dharna at the bank branches in response to the nation-wide strike call given in Tuesday.
