Warangal: More than two and a half years after the State government’s ambitious plan to construct an official residence/camp office for each of the MLAs, Parkal in Warangal Rural district has emerged as the first constituency to have one such facility.
It may be noted here that soon after it came to power, the TRS government decided to construct a luxurious camp office with a budget of Rs 2 crore for each MLA in their respective constituencies.
Although, the government initially proposed to construct buildings for all the MLAs, realising redundancy it excluded 15 constituencies of the Greater Hyderabad region. The Roads and Buildings Department was entrusted with the job of implementing the plan.
The government’s plan is to keep the MLAs close to the people of their respective constituencies and develop rapport with them by listening to their grievances. This apart, the office-cum-residence will also come in handy for the legislators in holding reviews and meetings with the officials.
Despite this, the plan didn’t make headway for the last two and a half years, mainly because of two reasons – non-availability of government land in prime locations and the disinclination of the legislators to move from their existing homes.
However, of late there was some movement with majority of MLAs finalising their locations and forwarding their proposals to the implementing agency. It’s learnt that tenders for the construction of 70 buildings have already been finalised and works on some of them were already commenced.
Against this backdrop, the first office-cum-residence constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 69 lakh in Parkal will be inaugurated on Thursday.
Speaking to The Hans India, Parkal MLA Challa Dharma Reddy said: “It’s a great concept conceived by the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, to reach out the people. As it’s an official camp office, even the cadres of Opposition parties without any inhibition can contact their MLA.”
The multi-storied building constructed in 2,800 square yards has a reception, meeting hall, VIP lounge, waiting room, office room for PA, PS and retiring room for the security personnel in the ground floor. The second floor has two bedrooms, a hall, a puja room and a sit out.
Meanwhile, the works of other 11 constituencies of the undivided Warangal district will also commence shortly. Warangal West MLA D Vinay Bhaskar already performed bhumi puja at a site in Balasamudram. East MLA Konda Surekha reportedly okayed a piece of land near Pochamma Maidan. Meanwhile, the other MLAs of the region were also reportedly finalised the sites.
Speaker S Madhusudana Chary, ministers Kadiyam Srihari, Tummala Nageswara Rao and Azmeera Chandulal will take part in the inauguration of the camp office in Parkal on Thursday.
