Warangal: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari has promised to raise Rs 2 crore for the development of Kakatiya Zoological Park located on Hunter Road in Hanamkonda.

Responding to a request from the forest officials seeking funds to develop the zoo, the Deputy CM said he would contribute Rs 50 lakhs from his constituency development funds, Warangal Urban district administration would offer Rs 50 lakhs, while the GWMC would extend an assistance of Rs 1 crore.

A proper plan of action should be prepared to spend the funds and works should be launched by the end of this year, Srihari said.

He inaugurated leopard’s enclosure at the zoo on Wednesday and unveiled a plaque rechristening the zoo as Kakatiya Zoological Park, which was called as Vana Vignana Kendra. The Deputy CM has also launched ‘Animal Adoption Scheme’ and newly designed logo and website of the zoo.

He asked the officials to procure animals like lion, elephant, giraffe and others for display at the zoological park.

Warangal (West) MLA D Vinay Bhasker addressing the gathering expressed hoped that the zoo would witness development following change of its name 30 years after its establishment. The Chief Minister has been allocating huge amounts of funds for the development of the city on par with the state capital Hyderabad.

The MLA lauded the officials of Andhra Bank for donating Rs 2 lakhs for installing CCTVs on the zoo premises. The number of visitors arriving at the zoo would increase in the days to come as new animals like leopard were kept on display, he noted.

Meanwhile, the Animal Adoption Scheme has received good response with Warangal Urban district collector, commissioner of police, Wildlife Association, Walkers Association and several individuals coming forward to adopt the animals at the zoo.

ZP Chairperson G Padma, MP P Dayakar, GWMC Mayor N Narender, Warangal Rural District Collector Prashanth J Patil, Conservator of Forests MJ Akbar and several senior forest officials were present.
