Hanamkonda: The government was making efforts to ensure irrigation of every acre of land in the State with Mission Kakatiya and through several irrigation projects, said Deputy Chief Minister K Srihari.

However, the Opposition parties were trying to create hurdles in the construction of irrigation projects by filing cases in the courts. The opposition parties should understand that it was not proper to obstruct irrigation projects for protecting their political interests, he suggested.

The Deputy CM along with Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy and Warangal (West) MLA D Vinay Bhasker has launched the renovation works of Kota Cheruvu at New Shayampet in the city on Thursday. The tank was being renovated with an expenditure of Rs 1.50 crore.

The Home Minister said that the government was giving priority to drinking water and irrigation and that was why has allocated huge amounts of funds to Mission Kakatiya. The ground water levels have increased phenomenally with the completion of two phases of Mission Kakatiya.

Referring to unorganised labour sector, he asked the leaders of the labour associations to see that the welfare programmes being implemented by the government should the workers. He asked the auto workers to contribute to ESI and construction workers to become members of Construction Board to secure their lives.

MLA Vinay Bhasker informed that with the help of trade unions in the city nearly 9,100 workers were issued insurance cards ensuring life coverage in the case of accidents. Efforts would be made to encourage beedi, handloom and construction workers and vegetable vendors to join the scheme.

On the occasion, Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy distributed insurance cards to unorganised labourers. KUDA Chairman M Yadava Reddy and others were present.
