Sultanabad: Hard rocks will become soft toys in their hands to become beautiful sculptures. Gods and Goddesses will come alive at their workshop in Garrepalli village in Sultanabad mandal of Peddapalli district.

They get the raw material – stone –from Marturu in Prakasam district. Their chisels work with ease and at such a speed to produce masterpieces of gods’ idols like Ganesh, Hanuman, Rama with His Consort Sita, Nandi, Bhulakshmi, Mahalakshmi and so on.

Besides images of deities, they also carve flag posts (dwajastambham) out of stone. Their sculpture has got world-wide reputation.

The ancestors of the sculptors were used to dig wells and engaged in stone quarrying. Later on, they acquired niceties of sculpture and became full-fledged sculptors.

One of the sculptors, Vallapu Darsaiah said he along with others, enjoyed making idols of deities. Garrepalli village has become the centre of their activity since 15 years. He is elated at their work is being recognised across the country.
