Kamareddy: Cleanliness is primarily important for a healthy living. Unfortunately, the sanitation workers who stand as pillars in providing cleanliness are being neglected by the officials concerned. Sanitation workers are those who strive to provide good health to the society at the cost of their own health. Unfortunately, they are forced to live in unhygienic conditions. It is pity such people are being neglected in the society.

In Kamareddy, there are as many as 274 sanitation workers discharging their responsibilities which include cleaning roads and drains and collecting garbage from houses. They work in wear and tear conditions.

When the drains are filled up and overflowing, they remove the waste that is obstructs the free flow of the drains with bare limbs. All though pungent smell emits from the waste they transport, they discharge their duty without complaining.

The sanitation workers have been working without any safety measures. This is leading to their ill health. A woman died due to ill health while 15 others are bed ridden.

The officials should provide gloves, shoes, chapels, masks, soaps, oil, garments and broomsticks for ensuring safety for the sanitation staff. But, the officials have forgotten to provide all these things for several decades.

A few of them appealed to the municipal officials and politicians to come to the aid of the sanitation staff.
