Hyderabad: The Karminagar Municipal Corporation is all set to become the first civic body in the State to get 24x7 water supply under Mission Bhagiratha project.

Municipal Administration and Urban Development Secretary Navin Mittal on Tuesday said Karimangar city was also in the race for smart city status, for which action plan has been prepared to the tune of Rs 1,684 crore.

Mittal said after successful grounding of the Mission Bhagiratha programme, the government has now decided to provide water to all urban households in the cities. “If everything goes according to the plan, the new initiative would start with providing round-the-clock water supply to the Karimnagar,” he added.

Outlining the roadmap for the steps to be taken in future to kickstart the programme, he said the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) would prepare the Preliminary Rapid Assessment Report. This will help in preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

ASCI officials felt that an understanding of the existing network was needed before taking up the work. Implementing the project through Public Private Partnership (PPP) model and preparation of a separate DPR for storm water drains in the city were also discussed at the meeting.

The Secretary asked the Engineer-in-Chief (ENC) Public Health to take the services of retired public health engineers to assist the ASCI in preparing the rapid assessment study of Karimnagar. Further, certain smart features like e-billing, online grievance redressal systems could also be taken up under the smart city project, Mittal said.

Commissioner Municipal Administration Dr T K Sridevi, Karimnagar Municipal Commissioner Shashank, Engineer- in- Chief Dhan Singh and other senior officials attended the meeting.
