Khammam: The Congress found fault with the Minister for Roads and Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao for criticising the AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh.

Speaking to media persons here on Tuesday, Congress Legislature Party Deputy Leader Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy said Tummala who himself hails from agriculture family should not have criticised Singh for pointing out the issues faced by the farming community.

“Singh who had served as the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh twice has a huge knowledge about the problems faced by the people. He doesn’t need to read the speech written by some others,” Reddy said. It may noted here that Tummala reportedly said that Singh has no knowledge about the State’s progress and that he read out the speech written by some others in a public meeting held at Kusumanchi in Khammam district recently.

Quoting Rythu Swarajya Vedika’s report, Reddy said since June 1, 2014, as many as 2,709 farmers committed suicide in Telangana. Of which, 68 were from Khammam district. Despite this, the TRS government didn’t take any proper measures to stop the farmers from ending their lives, he said.

Referring to the ensuing Budget sessions, he urged the TRS government to ensure the business of the House in a true democratic spirit. “The Congress will not allow the ruling party to suppress the Opposition leaders’ voice in the House,” Reddy said, demanding the government to come up with separate budget for agriculture.

He also demanded that the government constitute ‘Rythu Commission’ to look after the welfare of farming community. Further he demanded the government to implement the recommendations of the National Commission on Farmers chairman Prof MS Swaminathan.

The State government which failed to fulfill its election promises is also diverting the funds meant for SC and ST Sub-plans, Reddy said. DCC president Aitham Satyam, State Minority Cell convener Md Fazal and Youth Congress State leader Ramisetty Manohar Naidu were among others present.
