Bhupalpalli: A landmine allegedly planted by Maoist party naxals and found on March 4 near Palemvagu near Racharlapalli village in the district has been unearthed and defused by police on Wednesday.

It might be noted that the labourers engaged in MNREGA works have found a cluster of cables and informed the same to the local police. Following which, the works were halted and the villagers were cautioned against going near the area.

The police were suspecting that the landmine was planted targeting the police in the border area of Telangana and Chhattisgarh states. The wire hidden inside the ground ran till Koppugutta connecting the explosive, informed the local police.

Since the area affected by Maoist movements, police took time before disposing the landmine. It was said that the place where the landmine was planted was the path usually taken by police while conducting combing in the forest.

It might be recalled that in December 2016 an auto-rickshaw driver was injured after a pressure bomb allegedly planted by Maoists on Venaktapuram –Cherla highway exploded accidentally. Maoist posters and banners were also found in that area at that time.
