​Warangal Urban: The second Telangana State Police Games and Sports Meet-2017, marked by a colourful closing ceremony, concluded on a grand note here on Tuesday.

Hyderabad has won overall championship, while Telangana Special Police stood at second place followed by Warangal Police Commissionerate coming third. However, Warangal city police stood at top in medals tally by bagging 117 medals of which 37 were gold, 38 silver and 42 bronze.

The closing ceremony held at JNS Grounds in Hanamkonda was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, Home Minister Naini Narasimha Reddy, Tourism Minister A Chandulal, MP A Seetaram Naik, DGP Anurag Sharma and other senior police officials.

Addressing the gathering, Kadiyam has called upon the police officials to be at the forefront in promoting sports and games. Thus, they could contribute in glorifying the nations’ image by excelling in international-level sporting events.

Srihari suggested that while making appointments in the police department, prominent sportspersons should be offered jobs as it could help boosting department’s image. Similarly, police personnel who win medals at national and international events should be given promotions.

He felt that there was a need to bring changes in recruitment policy and service rules in the department. Appreciating the Telangana police on their people-friendly policing initiatives, Kadiyam said effective maintenance of law and order helped the government to take welfare schemes to the people.

Naini stated that state police was on top in the country in maintaining law and order and also in implementing modern and people-friendly policing measures. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has equipped the department with latest vehicles for patrolling and other purposes, he said.

The Ministers and the DGP showered praises on Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu and the Commissionerate police for organising the meet on a grand note.

Meanwhile, KP Naidu of Greyhounds won personal championship in Men’s category, while S Sujatha of Warangal Commissionerate bagged the same in Women’s category.

One highlight of the event was that for the first time archery event has been introduced in the police sports meet. The Commissioner of Police Sudheer Babu has thanked all the personnel and officials who worked hard in making arrangements for the smooth conduct of the event.
