Hyderabad: The recently appointed Special Deputy Collectors in the newly created districts are making beeline to grab ‘plum posts’ in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

According to sources, 15 of the 30 officials, who got promotion orders on March 1, are vying for the key posts in the rank of Deputy Commissioners in the corporation. Many of the SDCs have been lobbying strongly to get the posts using all possible channels including recommendation from the ministers.

The State government in order facilitate citizens and enhance the administration had recently promoted about 30 Mandal Revenue Officers as Special Deputy Collectors. The State government released GO 167 and GO 168 dated March 1 in this regard.

According to highly placed sources in the corporation, since March 1 about 15 SDCs have met the GHMC top officials to ensure the posts in the civic body. When queried about the same subject, a senior GHMC official told The Hans India that the recently appointed SDCs have been pressuring them through every possible means which includes ministers, MLAs and union leaders. He said that SDCs across all districts of the state have applied for the post of Deputy Commissioners so as to move to the city.

He said that some of the SDCs have even taken admission in schools here for their children for the next academic year. However, the GHMC official made it clear that the corporation can accommodate only two SDCs.

He said that SDCs would either be appointed as Deputy Commissioners for any of the 30 circles or would use them in the town planning department for conducting nala and building surveys. He said that the issue has been brought to the notice of the State government and were waiting for its approval for the list of the candidates to be appointed in the corporation.
