​Suryapet: Energy Minister G Jagadish Reddy stated that government was giving priority to development and empowerment of women in the state.

On Wednesday, the Minister participated as chief guest to the International Women's Day celebrations held at Suryapet.

On the occasion, Reddy felicitated successful women in the field of politics, employment and social service. He distributed Rs 20.30 crore bank linkage and Rs 6.87 crore subsidy to 101 SC, ST women entrepreneurs.

Addressing the gathering, the Minister described women as good managers of the family. Earlier, the society was maternal and during the course of time it became paternal, he added.

To prevent attacks on women, the state government installed CCTV cameras at all important places in the State and formed She Teams for their security and safety.

He listed out various state government schemes designed for girls and women, including 125 model residential schools and Kalyana Laxmi for the welfare of girls at the time of their marriages.

He further informed that this year government has decided to establish 30 Degree colleges for women to provide higher education to girls free of cost. Government giving Rs 15,000 incentive to women for opting institutional deliveries at government hospitals, he added.

In Nalgonda, Indian Medical Association, Neelagiri unit celebrated International Women's Day on a grand note at IMA hall in Nalgonda on Wednesday.

On the occasion, a medical camp to conduct PAP smear examination to the women of reproductive age to look for any symptoms of cervical cancer was held in association with Kerala Institute of Medical Sciences and Bibi Cancer Hospital of Malakpet of Hyderabad.

A painting exhibition was also organised with the paintings of Dr Chandramouli and Dr Sunitha. District Collector Gaurav Uppal inagurated the painting exhibition and took a view of them.

Addressing the gathering, the Collector appreciated IMA for conducting frequent medical camps in Nalgonda for the benefit of poor. He congratulated the doctors for bringing out paintings in women and their issues in the society.

He said it was a good occasion for the expressing women's feelings in the form of beautiful paintings. Nearly 35 women underwent PAP smear test.
