Nizamabad: The smuggling of edible oil, adulterated with beef and bones powder has again picked up momentum in the district though there was a lull for some time. These types of activities are rampant on the outskirts of Nizamabad and the in Bodhan, Renjal, Neela and Edapalli mandals in the district. Four months ago, such activities were found to be taking place in Navipet, Renjal and Bodhan. There are many mafia groups that are involved in the preparation of bone powdered oil in Banswada, Bodhan and Nizamabad towns.

In recent times, Nizamabad district has become a storehouse for keeping carcasses of animals like cows and buffaloes. There used to be a factory for crushing the bones removed from the carcasses of various animals. The officials have closed down the bones crushing factory.

However, bone crushing factories have been set up clandestinely on the outskirts of Nizamabad and in Renjal mandals to hoard huge quantities of bones of animals. The powder crushed from these bones is mixed in the edible oil by some of the traders and sold to the gullible consumers. The preparation of the impure oil starts during the night. This type of oil has become a health hazard.

People, especially some of the officials, are not picking up enough courage to go and inspect the factories and they were physically assaulted and were threatened to go back.

On the early hours of Thursday, some of the youth noticed a lorry and a DCM van on the bypass road of Nizamabad carrying the bones and rotten carcasses of animals and cow’s meat and fat which were stinking and they tried to stop the vehicle.

The carcasses are being hoarded in Dhupalli village of Renjal mandal. Speaking to The Hans India here on Thursday, one of the youth, Manohar said that a DCM van bearing the number APO1 U 8734 was passing by emitting foul smell and they immediately informed the rural police.

The police intercepted the vehicle and handed it over to the authorities of the municipal corporation. Sub-Inspector of Police (Rural) Chander Rathod said that they would verify and examine the meat content before coming to a conclusion and then file a case.

He said that the driver told him that they were going to Hyderabad to sell the meat and oil to the hoteliers in Hyderabad.

Rathod said that the samples of the meat were sent to the Food Inspector and after receiving a detailed report from him, action would be taken against the accused. He said that they also collected some samples of the meat from the DCM van and sent them to the Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation for conducting tests.
