Warangal: Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) Commissioner Shruti Ojha directed the municipal officials to initiate immediate measures ensuring regular water supply during the summer.

She held a meeting with officials to review summer action here on Thursday. She enquired about the number of tankers being employed for supplying water and told officials to make arrangements for engaging additional tankers to supply water.

The Commissioner, Ojha suggested equipping the tankers with GPS equipment for tracking the movements of tankers and for better monitoring. She also wanted the officials to check the condition of bore wells and hand pumps in the city and on the outskirts and to carry out repairs if required.

Special focus should be laid on 42 villages on the outskirts of the city, which were merged into the corporation in ensuring water supply this summer since the villages were not connected with municipal water distribution network.

The officials informed that adequate water was available in Bhadrakali, Dharmasagar and Waddepally reservoirs and they could meet the needs till the month of May. In addition to that one tmcft water from the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) in Karimnagar would help to meet the citizens during the season.

As a part of this, they are planning to supply water to half of the villages through the Arepally tank and Puttalamma tank besides supplying water through 100 tankers. While 49 tankers are already supplying water in the city, 59 more will be hired soon.

Additional Commissioner Shahid Masood, Superintending Engineer N Bikshapathi and Executive Engineer A Linga Murth attended the meeting. According to the officials 27.5 ft water is available in the Dharmasagar and 13.6 ft in Waddepally and 13.11 ft in Bhadrakali tanks.

Referring to individual sanitary latrines, the Commissioner wanted the officials to expedite the process of constructing 10, 000 latrines and also to complete the geo-tagging of the constructed toilets.
