Nizamabad: The sales tax fraud in the district Commercial Taxes Department continues to be in the news with people expressing surprise as to why the A1 and the A2 accused, Shivaraj and Sunil in the scam continue to be at large with the police failing to trace them and get them arrested. Moreover, they are also unable to catch the big fish in the Commercial Taxes Department who made them to indulge in all the irregularities siphoning off crores of rupees.

It is still a mystery as how these two, the father and son are managing to play hide and seek with the CB-CID sleuths and evading arrest. Rumours are doing rounds that these two are hiding somewhere in Benguluru city.

Till now, the A3 accused Vijaykrishna, A4 accused Venugopalachari and A5 accused senior assistant Hanuman Sigh surrendered to the court and last week, they have been interrogated by the sleuths at the CBI office in Sangareddy town.

It remains to be seen as to how much information they could extract from them and identify the number of persons behind the fraud. However, till Shivaraj and Sunil are arrested, no headway could be made in the case and the police are hopeful that they could be nabbed soon.

The CB-CID sleuths have conducted a Recce in the court premises and also taking the assistance of the civil police. It is alleged that the Shivaraj and Sunil are shielded by important political leaders in the district and they own illegal properties worth crores of rupees.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Thursday, Commissioner of Commercial Taxes department Anil Kumar said that he has already sent notices to 114 rice millers who are associated with the scam and interrogated them. They in turn, assured him that they would repay their arrears in installments and that was why cases were not filed against them, he added.

However, doubts are being expressed as to why the two main accused continue to be at large and the police not taking serious steps in nabbing them. They suspect the police to be in-hand and glove with the accused as they enjoy political patronage. According to some reports, efforts were also being made to shift them to other countries.
