Kotagiri (Nizamabad): Indiscriminate quarrying of sand has been going on at Hangerga village in the mandal. In order to cultivate the land, Gangamani, a farmer, obtained permission to quarry 25,191 cubic meters of sand from her four acre six gunta land in the survey number 531/AA.531/E.

Subsequently, she gave sub-contract to some private persons. It is learnt that these persons are hand in glove with Telangana State Mineral Development Corporation Limited (TSMDCL) officials. The traders are selling 12 cubic meters sand exceeding the limit of 8 cubic meters sand by deploying a 10-tyre lorry.

The person who takes permission through mee-Seva for eight cubic meters load is paying Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 to the traders for the excess load.

There are allegations that the amount is being shared with the TSMDCL officials. The traders are also transporting sand illegally using tractors and tipper lorries to places such as Nizamabad, Banswada and Bodhan.

When The Hans India contacted the in-charge Tahsildar Vittal here on Tuesday, he said that 6,000 cubic meters of sand has been transported so far. “Village Revenue Officers (VROs) have been deployed to inspect quarrying. The purchasers are to take permission from Mee-Seva centres. Action will be taken against those who transport sand during nights without having way bills,” he added.
