Hanamkonda: The district Congress president N Rajender Reddy has appealed the District Collector, Amrapali Kata, to look into the problems being faced by small traders and vendors in the city.

He complained that the vendors and traders, who sell fruits and others on pushcarts by road side from Hanamkonda petrol pump to Alankar junction, were forced to move out by the GWMC officials. As a result their livelihood activities were affected.

A large group of affected traders and vendors have on Monday met the Congress leader urging him to support their cause. Following which Rajender along with them has called on the Collector and submitted a memorandum appealing the official to let the vendors run their business without any trouble.

Similarly, he wanted the Collector to set up a vendor zone from Kazipet chowrastha to Bapuji chowrastha and to establish a bus station at Kazipet since it was made mandal headquarters. He suggested to widening of road from Kazipet chowrastha to Bapuji chowrastha to be limited to 80 ft, instead of 100 ft and ensure compensation to all those, who have lost their property in the widening of the road.

Rajender Reddy referring to the frequent traffic congestion on Kazipet flyover demanded the state government to initiate immediate measures to address the issue and to set up wagon factory at Kazipet to provide employment to local youth.

The city Congress president K Srinivas Rao, GWMC councillor T Raju, party leaders N Laxma Reddy, J Ravinder, L Charan Reddy, Gurram Amarnath and others were present.

Later on the day, at a meeting with the Traders Joint Action Committee the Congress leader extending solidarity to protest programme by them on April 1 at the district education office in Hanamkonda.

The committee members alleged that the officials concerned have failed to act against the private educational institutions that were selling text books, note books, school uniforms and other material.

The private educational institutions were engaging in commercial activities like selling books and uniforms on their premises though they were barred from such activities. Yet the education department has failed to curb such practices, the traders JAC complained.
