Nizamabad: The Government Hospital in the city is again in the news for all the wrong reasons. This time, it is on account of the indifferent attitude of the medical and para-medical staff towards the patients who come here for treatment.

Although a seven-storied building with 500 beds, the services that are rendered at the hospital here are highly deplorable and urgent remedial measures are the need of the hour.

Recently, on account of the negligence of the doctors on duty, one pregnant woman, Chamanthi died after giving birth to a baby in the hospital. Although it was a case of normal delivery, the relatives of the deceased are quite shocked as to how she could lose her life, except to the indifference of the nurses and doctors.

They did not inform them about the death of the mother and the birth of the baby boy and handed over to them only after six hours.

In another embarrassing incident, the Resident Medical Officer Dr Nagender, who was admitted here with dengue fever almost lost his life as his BP fell drastically but was saved by the timely intervention of a nurse.

In another case, a farmer who was brought here after getting bitten by a snake, lost his life on the hospital premises as there was no anti-snake venom. The tragic incident angered the District Collector Dr Yogitha Rana who took measures to ensure that there were no shortage of doctors or medicines at the hospital.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, Dr Nagender bemoaned that when an RMO like him did not get proper medical attention, the fate of the other ordinary patients could be easily understood.

Doctors on duty are quite negligent, he lamented. He said that he had lodged a complaint against the doctor on duty with the District Medical and Heath Officer and the Government Hospital Superintendent Dr Ramulu.

However, when contacted, Dr Ramulu said that the necessary steps were being taken to provide quality medical help to the patients though there were some small issues to be settled. The number of patients comeing to the Out-Patient ward has gone up. He said that action would be initiated against the negligent doctors. Compared to the past, services at the hospital have improved, he added.
