An awareness programme was organised to the beneficiaries of double bedroom houses of Dharmapuri, Velgatur, Gollapalli, Pegadapalli and Buggaram mandals along with people’s representatives at Sumangali Gardens here on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Whip said the government has increased the construction cost of 2BHK houses from Rs 3.50 lakh to Rs 5.04 lakh as none came forward to take up the construction works even after calling tenders for seven times in the district.

‘If anyone of the beneficiaries or the peoples’ representatives with buildings’ construction experience can come forward and take up the contract for constructing the 2BHK houses in the district,’ he offered. He assured that there are sufficient funds and land for constructing the double bedroom houses and the officials also will extend their full support to the contractors.

District Collector Dr A Sharath said that the government will supply sand, cement bags at cost of Rs 230 and other materials required for the construction of 2BHK houses by investing extra Rs 1.25 lakh for providing roads, electricity and septic tank along with other basic facilities.

He said that they will call for tenders again.Joint Collector Dr A Nagendra, Metpalli Sub-Collector Musharaff Ali, Jagtial Rural Development Officer Narendar, Panchayat Raj Executive Engineer Manohar Reddy, MPPs, ZPTCs and MPTCs were also present along with others.
