Peddapalli: Minister for Municipal Administration K Taraka Rama Rao said Rs 50 crore would be allocated for the development of Peddapalli town while touring the district on Friday.

He laid foundation stone for the construction of a new nagar panchayat building. KTR also flagged off sand taxi initiated by the District Collector, Alugu Varshini.

Participating at a public meeting held for enrolment of party membership, he handed over memberships to MP, MLA, MLC and other leaders. Speaking on the occasion, he criticised the then government in 1964 for demoting Peddapalli from municipality to nagar panchayat. He assured that it would be upgraded to municipality again.

The Minister lauded the government for spending Rs 5,300 crore towards pensions for 40 lakh people against that of Rs 830 crore spent for 29 lakh pensioners by the previous government. He lauded the Chief Minister, K Chandrashekar Rao, for sanctioning Rs 10,000 crore towards cast based works.

He also said the government has waived loans worth Rs 17,000 crore. He criticised the opposition parties for not being able to digest the government’s success on various fronts.
