Dreams Choked, a documentary of govt schools
Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of India Warangal Urban chapter has released a documentary ‘Dreams Choked’ on the status of government schools, here on Tuesday.
SIO did a ground-level survey and studied various surveys and several RTI petitions to get to the ground realities
Warangal: Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) of India Warangal Urban chapter has released a documentary ‘Dreams Choked’ on the status of government schools, here on Tuesday.
At a programme held at Islamic Information Centre in the city, the SIO education wing state secretary Dr Talha Faizuddin and others released the documentary. Speaking to presspersons, he explained that they started the process studying conditions at government schools in the mid October 2016.
The analysis reports of the various surveys, several RTI petitions and ground-level survey by the SIO brought out the ground realities prevailing in government schools. In order to reveal this reality to people of the State and to take to the notice of the policy makers it was decided to compile a documentary.
“Since the students’ talents and future are being destroyed in the schools due to various shortcomings in terms of infrastructure and other facts the documentary is named as Dreams Choked,” Faizuddin explained.
As per government statistics, total population of school-aged children was 65 lakh of which only 60 lakh students were actually attending school and remaining five lakh students were not going to school. There were few schools where there was single teacher who teaches five classes.
Of the total school going students, 46 per cent attend government schools while 54 per cent go to private schools. In terms of infrastructure, 6,874 schools do not have drinking water facility, 17,332 schools do not have toilets.
About 11,334 schools do not have play grounds and 2,415 schools do not have power supply. “How in this scenario the government intends to achieve ‘Golden Telangana’ when education, the most important aspect of development is neglected,” Faizuddin posed.
The SIO state PR secretary Yaser Ali, its city president Md Umer Muqtar, secretary Md Arshad, city PR secretary Md Ibrahim, retired Prof K Venkat Narayana of Kakatiya University and others were present.
