Kamareddy: People of the district are in despair as the State government is not in a position to supply drinking water through Mission Bhagiratha project during this summer. The works relating to Mission Bhagiratha are yet to be completed although the deadline is March 31.

Kamareddy is already facing scarcity of drinking water. Water is being supplied through tankers in many places in the district. . People are forced to purchase water.

Internal pipelines for a distance up to 608 Km have to be laid in the villages. As many as 441 water tanks are in various stages of construction and renovation. Apart from these, there is also shortage of valves for the main pipeline.

It may be recalled that District Collector Dr N Satyanarayana had directed the officials concerned to ensure the supply of drinking water to 131 habitats by completing the first phase works by March 31.

However, the officials concerned said that another two more months would be needed for completion of the remaining works. For the 236 km main pipeline, works were completed up to 211 km. There is a requirement of 700 valves for connecting the pipes.

The officials of the departments concerned said that they were to import these valves from Kolkata. They say it takes 10 to 15 days for the valves to reach here. Works for internal pipeline are going at a snail’s pace.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Tuesday, Kamareddy Mission Bhagiradha Executive Engineer Rakesh said the first phase works of main pipeline were almost done. “There is delay due to lack of valves. Valves have been examined in Kolkata. Once the valves arrive, works will be completed as soon as possible,” he added.

People are wondering as to when the State government would be able to provide tap connections. Expressing their anguish, they said that they had to face hardships for want of drinking water.
