Luxettipet: In utter violation of government rules, the officials were accused of showing dereliction to their duty in providing tents, drinking water and first-aid kits for the workers executing works under hot sun under the MGNREGA.

There are over 9,015 job cards in Luxettipet mandal and 10,787 in Dandepalli mandal. In Mancherial district, over 1,21,437 families have been provided jobs through various shramsakti groups. Of them, 2,161 are enlisted under groups meant for physically challenged.

It is the duty of the field assistants to provide shade/shelter, drinking water and first-aid kits to workers engaged in works like desilting irrigation canals, digging pits, construction of trenches in forest areas and so on. The assistant project officers and technical assistants’ duty is to supervise whether the basic amenities were provided or not.

Though the government has been spending crores of rupees for the welfare of the poor, the officials were blamed for not providing basic amenities to the workers.

A worker of Arkuta village of Luxettipet mandal demanded the officials provide shade and drinking water at work places. Another worker Padma expressed concern over the possibility of workers running the risk of getting sunstroke in the absence of basic amenities.
