Hanamkonda: With the committed efforts by the scientists, India is growing on par with developed nations in the field of space technology, noted Kakatiya University Vice-Chancellor Prof R Sayanna.

Saying that research plays key role in national development, he aspired the fruits of research should reach common men and address their day to day problems. The V-C inaugurated a two-day workshop on ‘Diffraction and other characterisation techniques in material sciences’ at Kakatiya University in Hanamkonda on Wednesday.

The workshop was organised jointly by University Grants Commission-Department of Atomic Energy Consortium for Scientific Research (UGC-DAE CSR) Mumbai Centre, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) and the KU department of physics. Prof Sayanna urged the research scholars to make use of advanced research facilities being provided by UGC-DAE centres located in Mumbai, Kolkata, Indore and Kalpakkam in the field of materials science.

At Kakatiya University all the required measures are being taken to promote quality research. Workshops of this kind would certainly be useful to the research scholars of the region, he pointed out.

DAE Mumbai centre director Vasudeva Siruguri said the objective of the programme is to create awareness about the sophisticated equipment for research available in their centres and to motive researchers to utilise them. UGC-DAE CSR Indore centre director AK Sinha delivered key note address on ‘On Manipulating Ions for Science and Technology’. The programme coordinator B Venkatram Reddy informed that 57 participants from 11 universities are taking part in the workshop.

Several scientists from DAE centre are expected to deliver lectures during the workshop. Professors AS Nageshwar Rao, G Gangadhar Reddy and M Saranga Pani, scientist Sudeep Mukherjee were present.
