Kamareddy: Decks have been cleared for the release of grants worth Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore from the University Grants Commission annually with the Government of Telangana taking the initiative to register lands and college buildings in the name of Kamareddy Degree College and handing over the registered documents to the College Principal.

Hitherto, the documents were in the name of the college society which was running the college. Thus, the college has fulfilled the eligibility criteria to receive the grants from UGC. Recently, the NAAC team had visited the college and assessed the running of the College by the management committee and submitted a favourable report. Since the college site was not registered in its name, grants were not released. Now, with this step, the past glory of the college is going to be revived.

The NAAC team visited the college in January last year and inspected the college library and assessed the College performance on the grounds using various parameters like nature of the courses offered, laboratories provided, pass percentage achieved and style of working of the teaching staff. The college scored 277 marks out of 300.

Kamareddy Collector Satyanarayana held a meeting with management representatives of the college and sent proposals to the UGC for granting of funds. The college has scope to grow as an autonomous institution.

The college offers 18 courses, including PG courses, with total student strength of over 1200. The college will have the authority to frame the syllabus and conduct examinations on its own once it transforms into an autonomous educational institution. If everything goes well, by next year the college will become an autonomous educational institution.

The college ranked number 8 in the State and has been awarded B grade in the NAAC assessment carried out a decade ago. Earlier, the NAAC team gave good score to the college twice but UGS grants were not released since the college site and buildings were in the name of the committee which is running the college.

Earlier proposals did not furnish the relevant forms giving property details, hence UGC funds could not be released to the college. Now the college furnished the details.
