Warangal: Good Friday was observed with religious fervour across the district on Friday. Special after-noon prayers, which included conducting of Stations of the Cross at the Churches, have taken place on the day on which thousands of devotees joined the prayers. Good Friday commemorates the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary outside Jerusalem in Israel in 33 AD.

Good Friday, which also called as Holy Friday, is a day of mourning and silent prayer for Christians. Catholics treat Good Friday as a day of fasting. This is an important event in Christianity, as it represents the sacrifices and suffering in Jesus' life.

The crucifixion was the culmination of a number of events in Holy Week, including: the triumphal return of Jesus to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday; the washing of the disciples' feet by Jesus and the Last Supper on Maundy Thursday.

Prayers were conducted at St Fatima Cathedral and Velangani Matha Church in Kazipet, Epiphany Church at Dornakal, Centenary Baptist Church and St Mary’s Church in Hanamkonda and various Catholic and Protestant Churches across the district.

At Kumarpally in Hanamkonda, the members of St Joseph Catholic Mission Church have conducted Station of the Cross; a 14-step Catholic devotion commemorates Christ's last day beginning with his condemnation and concludes with laying his of body in the tomb.

Warangal Catholic Bishop Udumala Bala led the prayers. Forgiveness and love were the main precepts taught by Jesus and every Christian should try to emulate such qualities. Crucifixion of Jesus holds great hope and redemption for every person on earth, he said.

In Dharmasagar mandal, the Stations of the Cross depicting the incidents on the way to Jesus’ Crucifixion were enacted at villages like Unikicharla, Rapakapalli, Veleru, Mupparam Karunapuram and at St Anthony Church at mandal headquarters.
